Accessibility

HMCS Sackville is made up of a multi-level platform connected by ladders. Visitors with mobility issues may find exploring the ship challenging. This is a Second World War ship and due to the uneven deck and the historic nature of the ship we are unable to accommodate wheelchairs, walkers, and baby strollers.

Yes, French is available.

No pets, unless proper documentation is provided.

Yes, please ask permission first if you are taking photos and there are staff members in the frame.

Yesterday at our Weepers lunch, we had a special visit from Brian McCullough, who gifted the trust a partially encrusted German wartime honey jar. The jar pictured is believed to have been jettisoned from U-190 by RCN boarding personnel following the Type IXC submarine’s surrender in May 1945. This artifact came from former Canadian naval reserve diver Charles Parsons. Charlie said the pieces recovered from diving had been jettisoned by the boarding party, who were taking no chances regarding the possibility of scuttling charges on board. "Anything that wasn’t tied down got thrown overboard," Charlie said.

Originally scheduled to take place this morning, the Committal of Ashes Service will now happen tomorrow, Wednesday September 20th due to inclement weather this morning. HMCS Sackville will begin her return journey around noon and will be secured alongside Sackville Landing mid afternoon and will reopen to the public.
