Mission of the Trust

The volunteer Canadian Naval Memorial Trust (CNMT) owns, maintains and operates HMCS Sackville, the last surviving World War II Flower Class corvette. She was designated as Canada’s Naval Memorial by the Canadian government in 1985. Our mission is to preserve the ship for posterity as a memorial to the Battle of the Atlantic. HMCS Sackville commemorates the 100,000 men and women who served in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II, the 4,500 servicemen, women and merchant mariners lost at sea, and honours the sacrifice and commitment of sailors of all generations who have served and continue to serve their country in times of peace, tension and war.

Vision Statement

Our vision is of a national Canadian Naval Memorial, a testament to those who served at sea in the past, and an inspiration to their successors. The Memorial is embodied in HMCS Sackville, a living symbol of the trials and triumphs of a decisive victory.

The Ship is currently closed to visitors and will re-open in the Spring.
